Reverend Beryl HiggsWhen reviewing the accomplishments of The Reverend Beryl Higgs, one discovers a woman of multiple roles and multiple achievements as evidenced by a long and distinguished career. She has worked as a pastoral assistant, a church administrator a scholar, a part-time university college lecturer; a management and investment services consultant, a bank manager, and a registered stockbroker. Rev'd. Higgs' record of community service is equally impressive as she has served In leadership roles in the growth and development of several professional and community organizations including the Girl Guides Association, the Business and Professional Women's Association, Junior Achievement Association and the Zonta Club. Born in Nassau, Bahamas, Rev'd. Higgs is the daughter of John (deceased) and Menera Vanderpool. She is the mother of Rory Higgs, Linda Higgs Swan (deceased) and Saundra Reid of Baltimore Maryland. She is the grandmother of Chanda Swan and Anika and Brett Higgs. She has a number of brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rev'd. Higgs' academic and professional qualifications include the Cambridge Certificate from Government High School, Nassau; the Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Miami; the Master of Divinity degree (MDiv) in Religious and Theological Studies from Howard University School of Divinity Washington D.C.; and postgraduate courses in Anglican Studies from Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria Virginia. Although Rev'd. Higgs has worked at St. Matthew's Church for the past eleven years, her knowledge and experience in pastoral care, Christian education, and theological training has been requested and used in other churches within the Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas as well as other Christian denominations. Rev'd. Higgs is strongly committed to theological education and the empowerment of lay people. She is particularly interested in the development of ministries, which address the needs of families who find themselves in crisis situations.
